Group Chief Executive Officer Juha Yli-Rajala from the City of Tampere and Chair Marja Makarow from the Board of Tampere University Foundation signed an agreement on transfer of Tampere University of Applied Sciences Ltd shares to Tampere University Foundation on 15 February 2018.
The event was also attended by Tampere University Foundation’s board members Risto Nieminen and Lauri Lyly as well as the City of Tampere’s Director of Growth, Innovation and Competitiveness Services Teppo Rantanen.
According to the agreement, the City of Tampere will assign its ownership, i.e. 87 per cent of the shares in TAMK, to Tampere University Foundation on 28 February 2018. The agreement contents were approved by the parties in 2017.
"The share and ownership transfer is an essential step in building the new higher education community," says President Markku Lahtinen from TAMK.
"The higher education group, which was made possible by the new legislation, will be a significant forerunner in Finland and Europe. A science university and a university of applied sciences in the same group enable new flexible study paths and an extensive course provision. The unique combination also includes research, development and innovation activities," says Chair Marja Makarow from the Board of Tampere University Foundation.
